Persian ābkār, from āb "water, liquid" (from Old Persian āpi-) + -kār "doer" (from Middle Persian); akin to Avestan āfsh (accusative singular āpəm) "water," Sanskrit ap-, Lithuanian ùpė, Old Prussian ape "river," Greek Apia "Peloponnesus" and to Sanskrit kāra "doing"
