Etymology

borrowed from New Latin Bryophyllum, genus name (now a section of the genus Kalanchoe), from bryo- bryo- + -phyllum "plant having leaves of the kind specified," borrowed from Greek phýllon "leaf" — more at blade entry 1

Note: The genus was introduced by the British botanist Richard Anthony Salisbury (1761-1829) in Paradisus Londonensis (London, 1805), tabula 3.
