chytridiosis, Latinization of French chytridiose, from Chytridinées, vernacular form of New Latin Chytridina, order name (from Chytridium, genus name + -ina -ina entry 1) + French -ose -osis; chytridiose, borrowed from French

Note: French chytridiose appears to have been introduced by the mycologist Adolphe Prunet (1858-1933) in "Sur une Chytridinée parasite de la Vigne," Comptes rendus hebdomadaires des séances de l'Académie des Sciences, tome 119 (juillet-décembre 1894), p. 574.
