Etymology

combining form from Greek díktyon "net, netting," perhaps of pre-Greek origin

Note: The noun díktyon is conventionally taken as a derivative of dikéō, dikeîn "to throw, cast" from an action noun *diktūs; however, the Mycenaean word dekutuwoko, if correctly glossed as "net-maker," with -e- in the initial syllable, has been taken to imply pre-Greek origin (see R. Beekes, Etymological Dictionary of Greek, Brill, 2010, with references).
