: a strong acid H2SeO4 that is crystalline when pure, that resembles sulfuric acid but is a more powerful oxidizing agent since in hot concentrated form it oxidizes hydrogen chloride and attacks gold and platinum, and that is made by oxidation usually of selenious acid or selenium dioxide
