: a volatile liquid compound TiCl4 that is made by the action of chlorine at high temperature on either titanium or titanium dioxide and so serves as a means of separating the titanium content of crude ores by distillation and that is used otherwise chiefly in skywriting and smoke screens because it fumes in moist air
