Board of Immigration Appeals
Agency
15-person tribunal administered by the Department of Justice (under the Executive Office for Immigration Review) and given nationwide jurisdiction to hear appeals from decisions of immigration judges or those of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Board's decisions are binding on all DHS officers and immigration judges unless modified or overruled by the Attorney General or a federal court. Most of the cases that come before the Board involve deportation orders and the exclusion of aliens applying for admission to the United States. The Board's rulings are one of the most important sources of immigration case law in the country.
