: the ability of individuals with blindness to detect and respond to visual stimuli despite lacking awareness of having seen anything

Following visual-cortex damage, certain patients report no conscious ability to see on one side of their visual field but still unconsciously perceive the identity and location of items in that same visual field. Scientists call this phenomenon blindsight.
