: either of two nerves arising from the sacral plexus and supplying the gluteal muscles and adjacent parts:

: one arising from the posterior part of the fourth and fifth lumbar nerves and from the first sacral nerve and distributed to the gluteus muscles and to the tensor fasciae latae

called also superior gluteal nerve

b
: one arising from the posterior part of the fifth lumbar nerve and from the first and second sacral nerves and distributed to the gluteus maximus

called also inferior gluteal nerve
