: either of two arteries supplying blood to the larynx:
a
: a branch of the inferior thyroid artery that supplies the muscles and mucous membranes of the dorsal part of the larynx

called also inferior laryngeal artery

b
: a branch of the superior thyroid artery or sometimes of the external carotid artery that supplies the muscles, mucous membranes, and glands of the larynx and anastomoses with the branch from the opposite side

called also superior laryngeal artery
