: injury to the patellar tendon that is marked especially by pain or tenderness in the area immediately below the front of the knee and that typically involves microscopic tearing of the patellar tendon often accompanied by inflammation or tissue degeneration

Note: Patellar tendinitis chiefly affects individuals regularly participating in sports (such as basketball, volleyball, or soccer) that involve repeated jumping, stops and starts, or direction changes.
