The film is based on the nonfiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder.

Where does nomad come from?

Nomad comes from the Latin nomad-, nomas, "member of a wandering pastoral people," from the Greek word nomós, which originally meant "pasturage" and subsequently came to mean "habitation" and then "district or province," and ultimately derives from the verb némein, meaning "to pasture, graze (flocks)."
