Where does rizz come from?

Rizz is thought perhaps to be short for charisma although YouTuber Kai Cenat, widely credited with coining the word in 2021, says that’s not what it’s from. No other lexical inspiration has been identified though. The verb form appeared after the noun.

How is rizz used?

Rizz is used with abandon, relish, gusto. The word has consistently been one of our most popular lookups since we added it to our online dictionary in 2023. But rizz hasn’t slowed down since then, spawning new forms and uses that are not yet officially defined in our pages. Notable among these is the noun rizzler, referring to someone with special or a considerable amount of rizz:

What a rizzler I almost fell in love

The noun rizz is also sometimes used like an adjective before another noun, as in “rizz face,” referring to an exaggerated “attractive” expression made usually for laughs on social media whose first use is sometimes credited to a third-grader from New Jersey known as “The Rizzler.” In whatever contexts it is used and in whatever form, rizz is usually playful and casual.
